Ruby Pier
The Ruby Pier amusement park is the main setting of this novel and therefore an important artifact. Eddie's father worked there as a maintenance worker for the rides, so Eddie grew up there. He also took over his father's job once he died. Ruby Pier is the place that Eddie can never get away from all his life. Ruby Pier goes beyond just being a setting though. It also becomes very important to the plot. It is the scene of Eddie's death which sends him to heaven, and he is connected to some of his people in heaven through the park. Ruby, Eddie's third person, is the park's namesake, and it was constructed because of her. This bond connects her to Eddie placing her in his five people he meets in heaven.
